right now in a new round of senate meetings for u.n. susan rice. she is going back after yesterday, it didn't go so well, she is going back. she will answer questions about the white house response to the consulate attack in benge, libya on 9/11 of this year. many political observers think she is trying to win supporters for a possible nomination of secretary of state. she would have to be confirmed in the senate. senator bob corker earlier said miss rice's statements may prove she is too political. the meeting between susan collins, she expressed concerns too. she is not known as a republican fire brand but she expressed concerns. these meetings come a day after three top republicans said they were more concerned about libya now after meeting with rice than ever before. here is senator collins a short time ago. >> i asked ambassador rice why she did not qualify her comments more, in light of this contradictory reporting from the president of the country. her answer was that she relied on our intelligence analysis. i don't understand why she would not have at least qualified her re

as part of her position in the u.n. and, in fact, reviewed the briefings that contained the references to al qaeda that individuals with ties to al qaeda were involved. and then yet, went on the sunday show and left a very different impression. let's not forget that on those sunday shows on "meet the press" as well as "face the nation" she also made the statement that al qaeda was decimated. and so it left a misleading impression to the american people. i was also troubled that they knew by the 21st the acting director of the cia said that the information about the reaction to the video and the protest was wrong and that no one corrected it, including ambassador rice, even though she had left that impression on every single network, op every sunday show. that left me very concerned about that as well. >> did she say to you that she had reviewed intelligence specifically about benghazi, that had the additional information? she couldn't say so publicly. had she reviewed that intelligence? did she affirm that to you or are you assuming that she had? >> she did review it. >> so, in other w

to al-qaeda in that u.n. speech to the world was that al-qaeda had been weakened and osama bin laden was dead. so i think this raises additional questions. it goes beyond ambassador rice. first of all, why were the talking points changed? it doesn't make any sense to me that we were trying to dupe al-qaeda that. doesn't pass the laugh test. buff also why was the president out 14 days later and still fail to go call it a terrorist attack to the world? >> steve: absolutely. because we don't know a lot of what is told by the intelligence community to the president of the united states, but we understand that 72 hours after the attack the presidential daily briefing, which tells the president about all the stuff that's going on, and it's classified, said just that. it wasn't spontaneous, and that it apparently had ties to that al-qaeda affiliate. so the president knew, even though he was out saying something else. >> i think it's deeply troubling, we got to get to the bottom of it. we have to assume he's receiving the classified information and we have no know why were the talking points

. here's what he told them. >> we were very firm in letting everyone know that u.n. observers are not allowed at iowa polls. obviously, there's been a little bit of controversy. it's not something i thought i'd be talking about the week before the election, but my job is to enforce the law, and can that's what we're going to do. >> reporter: iowa law does forbid those international poll monitors from being inside, and they will be arrested if that happens today in iowa. another thing to watch here is down ballot. there is a fight brewing about same-sex marriage. in 2009 the state supreme court legalized same-sex marriage, and that really motivated conservatives and evangelical christians here in iowa. they have successfully voted out three of the justices, today a fourth is on the ballot and also on the ballot, the state senate. it is narrowly controlled by democrats, conservatives are working hard to regain control of it so they can pass legislation regarding same-sex marriage. we talked to politics professor dennis goldfer from drake university about that. >> for the republi
